Nicki Minaj has revealed she’s cancelled plans for her new album and threatened to quit music. The Queens rapper announced the decision on social media, while blaming Jay-Z.
The 42-year-old took to X (formerly Twitter) on October 15th to claim that she would no longer be releasing a project and would be retiring.
“Ok I’m not going to put out the album anymore. No more music,” she wrote, before tagging Jay-Z. “Hope you’re happy now @sc. Bye, Barbz. Love you for life.”
In the days leading up to her post, Minaj made comments about music releases. “They don’t want me to put out music,” she said. “Me winning makes them feel like they lost. They’re right. However, it didn’t have to be this way. Lots of ppl part ways in business. They know how successful my next album is going to be.”
She continued, “Tried to sign Wayne, Drake, me. So they keep wanting to take or stop my money simply b/c narcissists believe what you work hard for belongs to them. Fuming b/c they can’t siphon anymore energy, money, blessings, love, grace, joy, PEACE… the culture. No successful tours. Just vibes & payola. CasiNO.”
In response to the post, Minaj claimed she was approached for an album and tour, but she declined. She also took further aim at Jay-Z and Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez.
“They came BEGGING the QUEEN for a tour & album & I said NOPE!!!!! LMFAO,” Minaj wrote. “Wanted to patch it up. They needed help from the QUEEN & the BARBZ. I called the Barbz on the secret BARB phone & it was a resounding NOOOOOOOO. just like the casinooooooooooooooooooo.
She added, “@sc let me find out you gon let Desiree take the fall alone. I don’t blame you. That ugly ass hoe. btch gon snitch any way. You might as well beat her to it. conspiracy. False imprisonment. Civil rights violations ???? RUN!!!!!!!!”
Minaj released her last album, Pink Friday 2, in December 2023. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
