Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs attempts to fast-track criminal appeal

Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs filed to appeal his conviction and the 50-month sentence handed to him. Now, he’s trying to fast-track the process.

Combs was slapped with four years and two months behind bars on October 3rd, with the rapper set to be released on May 8th, 2028 after time served.

He was found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution but was acquitted of sex trafficking racketeering charges.

Combs’ legal team are attempting to expedite their appeal, given the typical year and a half timeframe it usually takes in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

Due to the fact he could serve most of his sentence by then, his attorneys want the process to be speeded up.

“An expedited briefing and argument schedule is critical to ensure that Mr Combs’ appeal of his sentence does not become moot while the appeal is pending,” his lawyer, Alexandra Shapiro, said. “To ensure that Mr Combs could meaningfully benefit from any appellate ruling vacating his sentence, we have proposed a schedule that would expedite this court’s consideration of Mr Combs’s appeal.”

Following the notice of appeal last week, Shapiro is asking the case to be heard in just six months, suggesting briefs by March and oral arguments by April. Prosecutors agreed to the briefing schedule, meaning it’s likely to be approved by the judge.

Shapiro told Billboard, “Sean’s appeal will challenge the unfair use of the Mann Act, an infamous statute with a sordid history, to prosecute him for sex with consenting adults.”
