A tense and frightening incident unfolded over the weekend when a woman allegedly opened fire at Rihanna’s Los Angeles property while the singer and her family were inside. On Tuesday, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced that 35-year-old Ivanna Lisette Ortiz has been charged with 14 counts, including attempted murder, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and shooting into an inhabited dwelling.

Details of the Charges

Ortiz faces:

  • 1 count of attempted murder

  • 10 counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm

  • 3 counts of shooting into an inhabited dwelling

The charges stem from the alleged shooting on Sunday, during which Rihanna, 38, and her partner, rapper ASAP Rocky, 37, were reportedly inside an airstream trailer on the singer’s property. Also present were their three children—RZA, 3; Riot, 2; and Rocki, five months—along with Rihanna’s mother and two staff members. Additionally, two individuals were reportedly inside a neighboring home that Ortiz allegedly fired upon.

No one was injured, but authorities emphasized the danger, with law enforcement stating that the couple and their family “easily could have been hit.”

Arrest and Court Proceedings

Ortiz, a resident of Orlando, Florida, allegedly fired at Rihanna’s property from a white Tesla using an AR-15–style rifle. She reportedly fled the scene to Beverly Hills before being apprehended in Sherman Oaks approximately 30 minutes later.

At her first court appearance, Ortiz, dressed in a blue jumpsuit, did not enter a plea. A continuance for her arraignment was set for March 26, and her bail was established at $1,875,000. In addition, the judge issued a protective order requiring Ortiz to stay away from Rihanna and Rocky and to surrender all firearms.

Ortiz was represented by LA County Public Defender Jamarcus Bradford, and she waived her right to a speedy trial.

Background and Previous Incidents

According to reports, Ortiz has a history of legal and personal challenges. Her ex-husband’s attorney revealed that she had previously been placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold in Florida. She also faces past arrests for domestic violence, careless driving, and violating pretrial release conditions.

Documents show that Ortiz’s ex-husband was granted full physical custody of their child in April 2024, barring Ortiz from any contact. She filed an appeal later that year to overturn the custody decision.

Social media posts previously attributed to Ortiz show her criticizing Rihanna, including unverified claims that the singer had spoken negatively about her. Ortiz had also posted disturbing videos referencing Rihanna, though no direct connection between them has been confirmed.

Law Enforcement Statement

During Tuesday’s press conference, DA Hochman emphasized community safety:

“I want everyone in this county to understand that you should absolutely feel safe in your residence, in your neighborhood and in your community. When someone comes into our community and decides to shoot it up, that person will be arrested and held fully accountable for their actions.”

The motive behind the alleged shooting has not yet been established, and the investigation by the LAPD’s Robbery–Homicide Division is ongoing.

Rihanna’s Whereabouts

While Ortiz was being arraigned, Rihanna reportedly left Los Angeles on a private jet, flying to an undisclosed location. Authorities and representatives have not commented on her immediate plans following the incident.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the high-profile nature of those involved and the potential severity of the charges. Ortiz now faces serious legal consequences, including a possible life sentence if convicted of the attempted murder charge, as the investigation continues.
