A teenage boy was arrested last month for assaulting an elderly man at an NBA YoungBoy concert. Now, the 14-year-old is facing charges.
The incident occurred at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri, on September 21st, in which the child attacked a 66-year-old employee and one other person.
According to KCTV5, the Juvenile Office has since charged the teenager with felony assault and misdemeanour assault.
On the night of the incident, the two victims were taken to the hospital with injuries. Footage surfaced of the boy pushing the elderly worker to the floor and throwing punches after being asked to move to his correct seat.
In an interview, 66-year-old Thomas Schlange said, “I think people should be able to go to T-Mobile or any other venue in the city, purchase a ticket and enjoy their show. And they should not be interrupted by people who misbehave. I mean, it is serious; I went down and had blows to my head.”
He continued, “Just getting him off, getting him off of me because he was so enraged. So we were just, in essence, trying to protect the fans. The message is: we, as young adults or people growing into adulthood, we need to learn how to control our anger.”
The concert was part of YoungBoy’s Make America Slime Again Tour. In a statement, the office of Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas said, “Any information on criminal offences at the venue Sunday evening will be best obtained from KCPD. The mayor condemns violence in all forms, including in our entertainment spaces.”
They added, “Concerts, sporting events and community gatherings should be safe places of joy and connection, not fear or harm. The venue will work with KCPD, our prosecutors and our employees to ensure the assailants are identified and charged for the criminal conduct that occurred Sunday evening.”
