Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs returned to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn on October 3rd following his sentencing. However, the rapper wants to be moved to a different prison.
Combs has already been behind bars since September 2024, but will spend even longer in prison after being sentenced to four years and two months last week.
He’s been in the Special Housing Unit of the New York City jail since his arrest, but has requested to move to a low-level facility.
The rapper’s legal team have asked Judge Arun Subramanian if he can spend the rest of his time at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey.
According to The Mirror, a filing from defence attorney Teny Geragos read, “On behalf of Mr Combs, we respectfully request that the Court strongly recommend a designation facility to the Bureau of Prisons in Mr Combs’ Judgment.”
It continued, “In order to address drug abuse issues and to maximise family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we request that the Court strongly recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix for RDAP (Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program) purposes and any other available educational and occupational programs.”
FCI Fort Dix opened in 1992 and has around 4,000 inmates. In comparison, the Metropolitan Detention Center has around 1,250 inmates.
Combs addressed his drug addiction the day before he was sentenced. “I am now sober for the first time in 25 years,” he said. “I have been trying my best to deal with my drug abuse and anger issues and take accountability as well as positive steps towards healing.”
