Local police have reported that three people have been killed and a further 16 wounded after a mass shooting took place at a nightclub in Chicago.
The shooting occurred late on Wednesday, 2nd July. It followed an album release party for a local rapper named Mello Buckzz. The event was held at the 300 block of West Chicago Avenue, in the Artis Lounge nightclub in the city’s downtown area.
Local police revealed that 19 people were shot during the attack, which was staged as visitors were leaving the launch party. As reported by The Mirror, Chris King, a spokesperson for Northwestern Medicine, revealed that emergency services are evaluating several injured people from the shooting. However, they were not allowed to publicly share details about their conditions or divulge how many were rushed to the hospital. This information is expected shortly.
The artist who hosted the listening party has since posted many videos of her partner on her story, which suggests he was a victim of the attack. She described her intense and immediate grief: “I’m so fucking angry you was woke I held yo hand until I couldn’t you talked to me clearly ion get it boo I’m fucked up,” she wrote over a video of the pair dancing together.
She shared another picture in which she posed with two friends in a photobooth, writing on top of the image, “Damn shorty my mfn dog. My brotherrrr. U n vonte was my 2 people I’m so lost. I can’t believe I lost both ya’ll in 1 night.
In a separate story, she also wrote, “Prayers for all my sisters, God, please wrap your arms around every last one of them. We need you, I need you, ngl I’m fucked up.. Feel like everything just weighing down on me… All I can do is talk to God and pray.”
In November 2022, a mass shooting happened outside the very location, which was then known as the Hush lounge. That attack killed one person and left three more injured.
The motive behind the attack and whether police apprehended those responsible have not yet been revealed.
This is a developing story.
