A man who stalked Eminem has been sentenced to a minimum of 18 years in prison. 32-year-old Matthew Hughes was hit with charges of first-degree home invasion and aggravated stalking after breaking into the rapper’s Clinton Township home in August 2024.

Hughes was sentenced on June 17th, and Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J Lucido announced the decision in a press release on June 18th. As part of the sentencing, he was ordered to have no contact with Em.

The man was found guilty of the charges in May, resulting in 15 to 30 years for first-degree home invasion and three to seven and a half years for aggravated stalking. The sentences will be served together, meaning he will spend a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 37.5 years behind bars.

In a statement, Lucido said, “No one, celebrity or not, should ever feel unsafe in their own home. This sentence sends a clear message that stalking and home invasion will be taken seriously in Macomb County and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Everyone has the right to privacy, safety, and peace of mind.”

Hughes previously broke into Eminem’s home in 2020 and threatened to kill him. For that, he was sentenced to five years’ probation and time served. Em was sleeping when he woke to Hughes breaking his kitchen door window with a brick paver.

The rapper got him to leave the house and was held by security guards until police arrived. He pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of second-degree home invasion.

Eminem released a song about an obsessive fan, ‘Stan‘, in 2000. Appearing on The Marshall Mathers LP, he rapped about receiving disturbing messages.
