New York City rapper Church of Ububal (real name David Mosley) was arrested last month for allegedly murdering a cat. During a court hearing this week, Judge Linda Poust Lopez demanded the maximum sentence.
26-year-old Ububal was detained on October 30th and charged with criminal mischief, aggravated cruelty to animals, and disposal of dead animals. He’s facing up to seven years for criminal mischief and up to two years for animal cruelty.
According to the New York Post, the rapper sacrificed a house cat as part of a satanic ritual, posting it online on October 16th. He allegedly planned to do another “live sacrifice” on Halloween, but was arrested.
Speaking to Ububal in court on November 18th, the judge told him, “I will not approve a plea deal on the animal cruelty charge unless it is the maximum sentence on that charge. I want you to follow up on your mental health appointments.”
Leading up to October 31st, he allegedly told his followers, “Be there or be square. Like I said at my first show and no one came. But you will be at this one. Grab popcorn.”
Animal rights activists protested outside the courthouse as the rapper arrived wearing a black hoodie and a balaclava.
56-year-old activist John Cortez said, “I think that’s better than no sentence at all, but it deserves the two-years-plus if he has a psychiatric history. He deserves to be in an institution receiving the help that he needs. He’s a satanic cult leader, and he believes in torturing and sacrificing animals.”
Church of Ububal is from the neighbourhood of Fordham in the Bronx. He got his name from spelling “Lababu” backwards, which is a viral collection of monster dolls.
Mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa added, “He’ll keep getting released again and again and again, and the DA will not remand him to jail with no bail on Rikers where he belongs because anybody who is a consistent danger to animals is also a danger to human beings.”
He continued, “There’s no doubt about it, but he continues to indicate that he’s going to sacrifice animals and there’s nothing anybody could do.”
