Music competitions often deliver memorable performances, but occasionally a moment stands out for its honesty and emotional depth. During the first-ever “Ohana Round” on American Idol Season 24, singer-songwriter Kyndal Inskeep created exactly that kind of moment with a heartfelt tribute to the person she says means the most in her life—her mother.
Performing an original song titled “Woman of Me,” Inskeep turned the stage into a deeply personal space, sharing both her voice and the story behind it with the judges, industry experts, and a room full of fellow contestants.

Performing Under Pressure in Hawaii
The “Ohana Round” took place at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, where contestants performed in front of the show’s judges—Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan—along with an audience that included influential figures from the music industry.
Among them was Shirley Halperin, co–editor-in-chief of Rolling Stone, adding even more pressure to the already intense performance environment.
Inskeep admitted she was nervous before stepping onto the stage. But instead of choosing a safe cover song, she decided to perform something deeply personal—an original composition written specifically for her mother.

A Song Written for the Most Important Person in Her Life
Ahead of her performance, Inskeep revealed the emotional inspiration behind “Woman of Me.”
“My mom is my favorite person in the whole entire world,” she said. “She has been a backbone and just a rock in my life.”
The singer shared that simply looking at her mother in the audience might bring her to tears. Because of that, she intentionally tried not to make eye contact while performing.
The song was her attempt to express gratitude for the unwavering support her mother has shown throughout her life.
A Complicated Past That Strengthened Their Bond
The story behind the tribute runs deeper than admiration alone. Inskeep opened up about a challenging period in her life when she was younger.
As a teenager, she described herself as rebellious and struggling to find direction. During that time, she dropped out of school, began spending time with the wrong crowd, and eventually moved across the country to Los Angeles in search of independence.
Those choices created tension between her and her family—especially her mother.
Looking back, Inskeep acknowledges that the experience was part of her personal growth, even though it was painful for everyone involved.

A Mother’s Perspective
Inskeep’s mother, Staci, reflected on that difficult chapter while speaking with producers.
Letting her daughter leave home to find her own path was one of the hardest decisions she had ever made. But she believed it was necessary.
Sometimes, she explained, a person has to experience life’s challenges before discovering who they truly are.
Despite the struggles, her love and support never disappeared. When Inskeep eventually found her way back home, her mother was waiting with open arms.
That unconditional love ultimately became the heart of “Woman of Me.”

A Performance Filled With Authentic Emotion
When Inskeep took the stage, the emotion behind the song was immediately clear.
The performance showcased not only her vocal ability but also her songwriting talent. Rather than focusing on vocal theatrics, she allowed the lyrics to carry the emotional weight of the moment.
Her parents, Staci and Brian, watched proudly from the audience as she delivered the tribute.
The atmosphere in the room shifted as the performance unfolded, with judges and industry guests recognizing the authenticity of her storytelling.
Praise From the Judges
After the final note, the judges responded with enthusiastic praise.
Lionel Richie immediately highlighted Inskeep’s songwriting ability, calling it “incredible.”
Carrie Underwood echoed that sentiment, encouraging her to continue leaning into her strength as a storyteller.
Underwood praised Inskeep’s ability to pair strong lyrics with a compelling vocal performance, noting that she wanted to hear more of the songs Inskeep writes.
The moment was particularly emotional for Inskeep’s mother, who was seen wiping away tears in the audience.
A Moment Neither of Them Will Forget
After the performance, Inskeep admitted she had intentionally avoided looking directly at her mom while singing.
She feared the emotion might overwhelm her.
Even so, she said she could feel her mother’s presence and support throughout the performance. For Inskeep, it was one of the most meaningful moments of her journey on the show.
She later shared that if she could relive the moment again, she absolutely would.
A Platinum Ticket and a Major Milestone
At the end of the episode, several contestants were eliminated as the competition narrowed. But the night also included a major surprise.
For the first time in the show’s history, the coveted Platinum Tickets were not selected by the judges. Instead, the decision was made by a panel of industry experts, fellow contestants, and the extended Idol “Ohana.”
Inskeep was one of three singers awarded the honor, alongside Jordan McCullough and Brooks Rosser.
The Platinum Ticket gives recipients a valuable advantage as the competition progresses.
A Journey That Started Long Before American Idol
Inskeep’s appearance on American Idol isn’t her first experience with a major singing competition.
She previously competed on The Voice in 2019 and has continued developing her artistry since then.
During her American Idol audition, she introduced herself with another original song, “Praying of a Trying Daughter,” immediately establishing herself as a songwriter with a personal voice.
Throughout the season, she has continued showcasing her versatility—including a performance of Human by The Killers during Hollywood Week.
What Comes Next
With the Top 20 now moving forward, contestants will perform for America’s votes in Hawaii, hoping to secure their place in the next stage of the competition.
They’ll also receive guidance from celebrity mentors, including country star Brad Paisley and multi-talented performer Keke Palmer.
For Inskeep, the journey continues—but her emotional tribute to her mother has already become one of the most memorable moments of the season.
And if her performance of “Woman of Me” proved anything, it’s that sometimes the most powerful songs are the ones written straight from the heart. 🎶
